A Simple Tip to Help Insomnia & Anxiety
by Ginni Stiles on 06/23/13
Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night thinking of something really important, or something that is worrying you, and have trouble relaxing and falling to sleep again? Your brain is trying to keep you awake so you don't forget this important thing you have to do.
Keep a pad of paper and pen next to your bed and write down those troublesome (but often helpful and important) thoughts. Then thank your subconscious for the reminder and tell yourself that you have recorded the information and will attend to it in the morning. Tell your brain to leave your worry on the nightstand and relax, relax, relax...
This practice has really helped me. Not only am I able to fall back to sleep faster and without anxiety, but the reminders I leave for myself have been very helpful. I tend to them the next day and I don't forget important things I need to do!
I find this book very useful for capturing all the things flying around in my head and accomplishing them without anxiety: Getting Things Done by David Allen.
